UPDATING OF "PORTOLANOS" No 1/2009
Following every edition, and as mentioned in the "introduction" of the Portolanos, all changes and latest maritime information can be obtained from the official "Notice to Mariners" of the Hellenic, or foreign, Official Hydrographic Services covering the Hellenic seaways.
Nevertheless, for convenient and immediate updating of skippers regarding, foremost, safe navigation and, secondarily, maritime conditions at sea, every publication of "Portolanos" is accompanied with a printed notification. At the same time all latest updates and information can be obtained through our website on the page UPDATING OF PORTOLANOS.
At present maritime information regards the following:
dangers at sea - the presence of dangerous shipwrecks, shallows, reefs, the construction of new boat-harbors and changes to harbor works - new lights/beacons and changes to prominent coasts etc.
Each "Portolanos Update" is published periodically and when changes incurred make it necessary. They are published numerically following the year of publication.
Warnings to Mariners: these are released by the Hydrographic Service as urgent notices and regard urgent information of navigational dangers or other information regarding safety of navigation. The nature of these makes it imperative that they be made known the soonest possible (SAR regions - damage of lights' and beacons' network, fog signals, radio signals aids, floating mines, naval and firing exercises - installation of floating constructions far from the coastline - storm warnings - etc. Warnings are not published or distributed as are the Notices to Mariners. Due to their urgent nature they are released via Radiotelephony.
We kindly request all mariners (professional and amateur) to inform us of every change and even of their own experiences from their voyages using any available means.
